Summary:
As well as The Big Hearing that will be held nationally on April 26th  a nationwide piece of research will be carried out looking into issues of the incomes, conditions, training, teacher: pupil ratios, lack of teachers and gender  issues and what are peoples’ ideas of ‘the ideal teacher’. The plan is to involved huge numbers of civil society across Brazil in the GAW. The results of this will be published in a dossier and disseminated widely. Similar activities to the Big Hearing will be held in the local and regional parliaments all over the country. To support the campaign a large scale radio campaign will run up to and during the Action Week with spots informing people about GAW 2006 and telling them of how to take part in it, along with stories on the state of teachers and other education workers in Brazil.

The Big Hearing with President Lula in Brasilia (to be confirmed) will take place from 11AM, on April 26th, in the National Congress, Brasilia.

During the Big Hearing social actors such as our National Campaign for the Right to Education and the National Union of Education Professionals will tell the Parliamentarians what Brazil needs to have a quality education system, mainly around the points related to teachers. There will also be symbolical visual action such as a parade inside the Congress. it's still being negotiated as it's in the Congress premises.

For more information contact Iracema on (11) 3151-2333 ext. 133 or 143. If it's tomorrow, we'll be in Brasilia and can be reached on the mobile (61) 8155-1716.
