What's happening in 2008:
Exciting for the first time Afghanistan is taking part in Action Week in 2008. CHA, SMO, DHSA and AMMC have come together in a consortium to carry out this work.
Throughout Kabul the World's Biggest Lesson posters are being put up, and adverts are going out on public TV and radio stations. 400 people are being invited to the national World's Biggest Lesson that's taking place at the Isteqlal High School in Kabul, and will unite politicians and students alike. Invitees include the President Hamid Karzi, the Finance Minister, Minister of Education and other politicans. The Education Minister has been asked to deliver a speech on quality education in Afghanistan. The World's Biggest Lesson will end with a concert of some famous Afghan singers, who will sing about education.
Across the country quality education for all is a big issue - there's a particular shortage of qualified teachers, good school buildings, and school resources. Schools in 13 provinces have been contacted through the coalition members - they've already invited local politicians and hope to take part in the World's Biggest Lesson.

What happened in 2007?
With only 17% of Afghan women being able to read and write, Education for All is at present a distant dream in Afghanistan. During Global Action Week UNESCO organized a photo exhibition which paid homage to leading Afghan defender of girls’ education, Safia Ama Jan, who was murdered in 2006 for her activism.
