لا يوجد حاليا أي الترجمة المتاحة لهذه الصفحة 20 April 2010 Today, some 15 million children in over 100 countries around the world will sit down and take one lesson in support of the 1GOAL campaign which aims to get all children into school.
This World Record attempt will be backed by some of the world’s biggest names in football who have come out to support what promises to be footballs biggest ever campaign. Players such as Alessandro del Piero, Samuel Eto’o, Rio Ferdinand and legends including Eusebio, Zinedine Zidane and Sir Bobby Charlton are backing 1GOAL as are clubs such as Inter Milan, Liverpool, Barcelona and FC Porto.
This week there will be activities taking place across the world will include:
- Bangladesh: Over 3 million people to take part in the Big Lesson,
- Nigeria: Over 500,000 children to participate in the lesson and former Nigerian player Jay Jay Okocha has been visiting schools in country,
- Japan: Children teaching the lesson in parliament to Members of Parliament,
- South Africa: 50,000 children to participate in the lesson,
- US: Actress and Advocate Jessica Alba who has recently returned from South Africa to launch 1GOAL in Washington DC with lessons planned across the country.
- Congo: 1GOAL matches in the national stadium and more than 300 schools in Kinshasa taking part in the lesson
With Africa’s first World Cup just over 50 days away, the campaign is seeking to secure $16bn a year in funding from world leaders to ensure that the 72 million children currently unable to go to school can receive an education.
Backed by FIFA, 1GOAL says this new funding should come from both increased aid commitments from rich countries as well as budget commitments from developing countries. The South African Government will be hosting a High Level Summit during the World Cup will set out a road map to achieve this.
In the UK, over 40 players and four Premier League Clubs have signed up to the campaign and last week Fabio Capello, the England Manager became the 100th supporter of the campaign. 1GOAL in the UK will be hosting its lesson in June during the World Cup when some 8,000 schools and 1 million pupils are expected to take part in the lesson.
Co Chair of 1GOAL, Her Majesty Queen Rania said: “As humanity unites around the World Cup, millions of people are joining together to demand Education for All and protect the right of every child to go to school. Together, we’re sending a message to world leaders: live up to your promises and give every child an education, because, today, 72 million children are denied their only escape from poverty, their strongest shield against disease: their right to an education. This summer, as countries vie for the world championship, let s make sure governments are once more champions of children by signing up to 1GOAL.”
