What's happening in 2008:
1 - Cambodia’s His Majesty the King will be visited by 70 representatives of marginalised children and adult learners. They will ask him to report on the progress made in Cambodia on providing inclusive quality education to everyone. It is hoped that the meeting will persuade decision makers to focus on providing quality education, allocate more budget resources and eliminate the discriminated of marginalised people.
2 - A Round Table Discussion will be held on Quality Education to End Exclusion. The forum will be attended by officials from the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, Ministry of Interior, Development Partners, Teachers Association and Parents Association.
3 – Across the country local leaders and parents will be going ‘Back to School’ and taking part in local versions of the World’s Biggest Lesson. Communities will learn about how to identify and challenge exclusions in education.
4 – Public Awareness: Information about the World’s Biggest Lesson will be disseminated with the use of bracelets, picture phone messages, posters and TV appearances. A Radio Talk Show will inform the public of the events, marginalisation in education, and encourage parents to send their children to school. This is being aired during Action Week on Cambodia’s Women Media Centre Radio (102 MH), Family Radio (99.5 MH), the voice of civil society program (103 MH), and Absara radio (95. MH).
What happened in 2007?
Actions culminated in a big National Hearing which took place at the National Institute for Education in Phnom Penh. 2,000 children, students, and government representatives came together and discussed Education as a Human Right before standing side-by-side in a human chain. Messages from the children were passed along the chain to the Secretary of State for Education. H.E. Im Sethy.
