The Board is accountable to GCE's Members, and are voted in by GCE's World Assembly every three years. The board meet regularly by phone and in person to oversee the development of the campaign strategy, manage the budget and guide the world of the secretariat.

Camilla Croso
Camilla Croso is Brazilian and is the coordinator of the Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education (CLADE), a network that articulates 18 national education forums and 8 regional networks from Latin America. The Campaign seeks to influence policy making both at a regional and national level, as well as at the international level. She graduated from the University of São Paulo in 1994 and received her master in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics in 1998.

Between 2003 and 2007, she coordinated the Education Watch programme of Ação Educativa, a key Brazilian NGO, focusing on the research and monitoring of education public policies, seeking to foster civil society empowerment to further influence the education debate and decision making process. Between 1999 and 2003, she initiated and coordinated the Brazilian National Campaign for the Right to Education, an important civil society network that thrives to date.
Between 1994 and 1997, Camilla worked at the Latin American Regional office of the Kellogg Foundation. She has also been consultant of several organizations, including the European Community, and is the author of a series of articles and books in the area of education and rights, the latest being Equality of Ethnic Relations in Schools (2007).
In 2000, Camilla participated in the Dakar World Education Forum, integrating- as civil society representative- the Writing Committee that elaborated the text of the Dakar Framework for Action.
Camilla was previously on the GCE board representing Ação Educativa and in January 2008 she was voted in to represent the Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education.

Monique Fouilhoux
Monique Fouilhoux is the Deputy Secretary General of Education International.
Monique was born, educated and lives in France . She holds both Bachelor and Master degrees in Law from the University of Clermont-Ferrand in France.
She started her career as a Civil Servant in the ministry of Internal Affairs and joined the University of Clermont Ferrand in 1973 at the creation of the Department of Further and Adult Education.

Involved in the trade union movement, she was elected Deputy General Secretary of SNPTES and in 1987 became elected National Secretary of the French Education Union (FEN), know today as UNSA-Education.
Monique Fouilhoux has been involved with Education International (EI) since its creation in 1993. She works on various areas, in particular Higher education and research issues and the impact of GATS and Trade agreements on education, with EI affiliates, intergovernmental agencies and non-governmental organisations. She is particularly engaged with the most pressing issues concerning academics and researchers, such as working conditions, careers, academic freedom, mobility. Monique is also Secretary of the EI European Higher Education and Research Standing Committee (HERSC) and moderator of the ETUCE Higher Education and Resarch on-line Network.

Jennifer Chiwela has worked in the field of education for the past 42 years. Jennifer is also the co-founder and Executive Director of the People's Action Forum, an indigenous non-governmental organization established to assist capacity building of rural communities through both formal and non-formal education. Through the organisation's programme activities, Ms. Chiwela has become actively involved in the Educational for All initiative - taking part, with other NGOs, in the national assessment process in 1999. Ms. Chiwela also participated in both the International Consultation of NGOs/CSOs and the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal. Prior to this, Ms. Chiwela served in the Zambian government as the Chairperson of the Zambia Teaching Service Commission.

Maria Khan
Maria Khan has been the Secretary General of the Asia South Pacific Bureau for Adult Education (ASPBAE) since 1995. ASPBAE contributed to the discourse at the World Education Forum in Dakar 2000, to ensure adult literacy was including the Dakar agenda.
Read More... Although Maria now lives in India, she was born and grew up in the Philippines. She read business administration at the University of the Philippines and was a student activist during the Marcos era. She was deeply involved in the anti-dictatorship movement before settling into rural development work, and gaining a Masters in Rural Development from the University of East Anglia. It was through working in this sector that she realized education was essential in the struggle to facilitate citizen participation and social transformation.
Maria Khan is an expert in advocacy work and coalition building having worked with many grassroots networks, and CBOs. She has led ASPBAE's work on research and documentation and encouraged the emergence of grassroots scholars to fill the void on a predominantly northern based research on adult education.

Bright Appiah
Bright Appiah is a Ghanaian and currently the Executive Director of Child Rights International a NGO operating in Ghana since 1997 and is Executive Chairman of the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC). I am hard working person that believes in the principle of giving every single child the opportunity to realize their worth in order to create just and fair society. Therefore there is the need to give a lifting hand to those who solely need it in order to create a balance society where load can be shared and problems can be solved together.

David Archer
David Archer is Head of Education at ActionAid International and lives in London. In the 1980s he worked on literacy programmes across Latin America inspired by Paulo Freire. In the 1990s he was involved in developing the Reflect approach to adult learning, co-authoring "The Reflect Mother Manual" (1996) and "Communication and Power" (2003). His advocacy work on adult literacy continues today, notably through his work on developing the International Benchmarks on Adult Literacy: Writing the Wrongs (GCE 2005).

A major concern in the past three years has been challenging the role of the IMF in constraining spending on education, especially on teachers and he co-authored GCE and ActionAid publications: Contradicting Commitments 2005, Cancelling the Caps 2006 and Confronting the Contradictions 2007. In 2006 he was part of an External Panel reviewing the World Bank's investment of $14 billion in education since 1990 and he is now part of an international advisory panel steering the evaluation of the EFA Fast Track Initiative. He is co-chair of the Commonwealth Education Fund www.commonwealtheducationfund.org ; and manager of the Right-to-Education Project www.right-to-education.org. Alberto is the board representative for Campana Argentina por el Derecho a la Educacion (CADE). He is also the Founder and President of SES Foundation (in Argentina). He is a popular educator and teacher. At present, he represents Education and Social Organisations at the Education Policies Council of the Ministry of Education and he is part of the National Coordination Board of the National Programme of Education Inclusion. Helle Gudmandsen
The Danish coalition has existed since 2000 (GCE member since 2009) and consists of 33 organizations. The coalition plays a vital role in the Danish debate on EFA and has a strong basis for carrying out advocacy for education. The coalition has a part time coordinator and an office based with member organization IBIS (international NGO working in Africa and Latin America).
Read More... Helle Gudmandsen is the Campaign Coordinator for IBIS in charge of running the Global Action Week (GAW) in Denmark. IBIS has been an international member of GCE almost 10 years and set up the campaign in Denmark. The campaign reaches out to half of all schools in Denmark: 200.000 pupils and 10.000 teachers. It is well known and highly respected by Danish authorities. Helle is 48 years old and has a background as a teacher and deputy principal in Denmark. From 2000 she worked on the UNESCO education program Breaking the Silence, and from 2002 to 2007 in South Africa for IBIS based in the Ministry of Education supporting development of a new curriculum. She has been GAW coordinator since 2008, has developed teaching material in relation to the campaign and has supported IBIS education program in Ghana.

Elie Jouen
Elie Jouen is a board member of the Global March Against Child Labour. Prior to his recent retirement Elie Jouen was also Deputy General Secretary at Education International. Elie Jouen lives in France.
Elie has studied at both the "Ecole Normale de Rouen" and "Institut des Etudes Politiques de Paris", in France. Very early in his career he became involved with trade union responsibilities at both departmental and national levels and in 1978 he became National Secretary of the French education union FEN, known today as UNSA-Education.
Read More... In 1980, he became Assistant General Secretary of the International Trade Secretariat of Education (ITSE), then Deputy General Secretary. During the formation of Education International (EI) in 1993, he was appointed Deputy General Secretary. Within this framework, Elie organised and supervised many EI activities in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Central and Eastern Europe, and more specifically in the Education and Development Cooperation fields.
He maintains close relationships with many intergovernmental organisations including the World Bank, ILO, WTO, OECD and UNESCO.

Imad Sabi
Imad Sabi, based at Oxfam Novib's Global Programmes in the Netherlands, represents the International NGO constituency of GCE on the Board, on behalf of Oxfam International. His responsibilities at Oxfam Novib entail working with an extensive network of global civil society actors. Previously, Imad worked in emergencies, with responsibilities in Africa and the Middle East, and his work carried him to Central Asia where he worked for a number of years as a consultant. In the field of education, he is well acquainted with education in emergencies and post-conflict contexts, as well as with the promotion of reading skills among young people.
Imad holds an MA in the Politics of Development from the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague and is currently a doctoral canditate in Political Science.

Kailash Satyarthi
Born in 1954 in Vidisha, India, Kailash worked to help under-privilege students from a very early age. He is the founder of the Global March Against Child Labour, the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement), the South Asian Coalition on Child Servitude (SACCS), and the world's first child labour free social labelling system, RUMKARK.

He and his colleagues at BBA have liberated over 76,129 bonded and child labourers and helped rehabilitate and provide education to tens of thousands of children. Kailash is the recipient of several international awards viz.
