Action Week 2009: The Big Read |
Planning is in place for GCE’s Action Week in 2009. The focus of the week is on adult literacy and lifelong learning – and ensuring that the 774 million adults who missed out on school still have a chance of an education.
The action for the campaign is focused on The Big Read which will come in the form of a book written by key global figures. Campaigners will read a story; add their name to the book before passing the book onto more people to read. We hope to see more than 10 million people taking part in the Big Read. The Big Read will be read and delivered to ministers and governments on the 22nd April 2009.

The resources for Action Week including the resource pack, poster, leaflet and sticker designs will be ready by the end of October. The members’ handbook, GCE’s annual Big Book (that summaries all the activities and successes of national coalitions around the world) and Big Film are in the final stages of development. For the first time these resources will also be available in Arabic. Member organisations can expect a mailout of all these key documents the first week of November.
