For a new international cooperation in Haiti |
Il n’existe actuellement aucune traduction disponible pour cette page The 4th GCE General Assembly of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) calls for a new international cooperation in Haiti that is based on ethical interventions and relations established with the Haitian people. This includes:
- Prioritizing social and human needs over the current focus on militarized interventions;
- Respecting the sovereignty of the Haitian people and institutions in decision-making processes in order to overcome the current structural crisis within the country;
- A clear position against the return to the country of the exdictator Jean Claude Duvalier, who has a proven record of the utmost corruption and human rights violations against the Haitian people.
In this context, the GCE:
- Demands that States support democracy in Haiti, and the establishment of democratic processes in all future elections.
- Demands restitution for all violations of human rights in Haiti, highlighting those institutional violations carried out by the MINUSTHA and the national police such as rape, violation of health rights, and the consequent further layer of discrimination suffered by the Haitian people.
- Condemns unconditionally the continuing execution of activists and non- activists as well as the criminalization of peaceful public demonstrations.
- Supports advocacy processes for coordinated and efficient cooperation in education and other sectors during the ongoing crisis situation.
- Supports advocacy processes for the development of legal and policy frameworks to achieve a public, free, quality education for all.
