What happened in Action Week 2009?
In Kenya the theme for Global Action Week was localized to "Eradicate Illiteracy: Realize Universal Primary Education". It began with a press briefing on 19th April, followed by the main event a few days later, which was attended by the Director of Basic Education and various other officials. The focus was on promoting education for all children and adults through Basic Primary Education and Adult and Continuing Education.
What happened in Action Week 2008?
Despite the political set-backs around the elections, Action Week activities were a hit in Kenya and the Elimu Yetu coalition joined forces with UNESCO to pull off the World's Biggest Lesson in a slum area of Kibera.

The lesson focused on the education needs for the children and young people who faced violence and exclusion following the post-election crisis. There was also a public rally which was attended by the Minister of Finance. Elimu Yetu organised a press conference to launch the week, and inform the press of the upcoming activities.

In a Mombasa Secondary School, Councillor Teddy Mwambire of Ganze Kilifi District sat in class together with Maina Mbugua, a parliamentary aspirant in Kisumu Constituency for the World’s Biggest Lesson.
What happened in Action Week 2007?

Throughout the week campaigners took part in activities across the country – participating in workshops on what the government was doing for EFA.

The highlight of the week was a huge walk across Nairoibi, from Jamhuri High School to Pumewani Sports Ground that was headed up by the Prisons Brass Band.

Having marched and chanted through the streets the crowds assembled to watch performances that depicted the poor situation of some Kenyan schools and the demands on the government for more action.
