What's happening in 2008:
Tanzania Education Network/Mtandao wa Elimu Tanzania (TEN/MET) is marking the Global Action Week (GAW) 2008 at different levels where its members are working. Parents, teacher, children and politicians will go back to school to attend the World's Biggest Lesson. The national event will be the Big Hearing in Chalinze, which used to be the constituency of President Jakaya Kikwete. Bagamoyo Education Development Foundation (BEDF), one of the TEN/MET members working in this area will lead the national event. It is expected that the Deputy Minister for Education and Vocational Training will be at the climax of this event which has conveniently been planned on Saturday, 26 April 2008.
What happened in 2007?
Action Week climaxed when thousands of campaigners JOINED UP at Maili Moja in Kibaha for Education Rights NOW. The long line of children, parents, teachers, politicians and government officials was over 3km long and attended by MP Ludovick Mwananzila, the Minister for Education and Vocational Training and many other education officials. The colourful event did well for raising the spirits and was led by the famous Temeke brass band from Dar es Salaam. Children delivered their messages to the Honourable Deputy Minister and officials in the form of banners, posters, performances, poems and songs. Their messages included: Make quality education for every child a priority! All forms of discrimination to education is a violation of an individual’s rights!
