allAfrica.com: Uganda: Charity Calls for Quality Education
THEY braved heavy rain that pounded Kampala, with one message: "Quality Education to end Exclusion." They said it with their T-shirts, caps, ...

On Monday the 21st of April, which was the first day of the Global Action Week FENU partnered with CCF and conducted a march for education as well as a press conference to officially the Global Action Week.

Please view the March Report of FENU here.

In Uganda Action Week plans are centered around petitioning Parliament to consider the Education Bill which has been stalled for some time now.  Although the bill went through the first reading, debate on it has since ceased, hence FENU is using Action Week to raise public awareness on the bill as well as putting in a judicial challenge to try and get parliament to re-consider the bill. If passed into law, this bill will repeal the 1971 Education Act which civil society groups consider behind the times. The new law will also introduce clauses requiring the government to give fre and compulsory education to all. In addition to this, FENU will lodge a petition in the high court for a bill on disadvantaged children. Further to that the Inspector General of police will be publicly asked to take proactive measures to protect children who have been disadvantaged and/or excluded in school becasue of actions of defilers.  Throughout the country 30 member organisations will participate and more than 700 people are expected to take part in this year's Action Week.
